It is illegal to rent a vehicle under the so called “Private Rental” or “ Robot” Rental Practice.
- Persons who do so either as the hirer or renter are guilty of an offence.
- You should ensure that the vehicle/car owner has a licence issued by The Jamaica Tourist Board.
- Make sure that the person has, and gives you photocopies of Insurance Certificates stating that the vehicle(s) can be rented.
- If you fail to bear the above in mind, note you are breaking the law
- In the case of an accident resulting even in death you will be personally responsible to compensate the person or persons who are involved in the accident. The Insurance Company will not pay.
- You can be charged by the police with the possible penalties by the Courts, inclusive of suspension of your Driver’s Licence. If you are found guilty of driving a vehicle, while your Licence is Suspended the Courts have no choice but to Sentence (You The Offender) to Imprisonment.
